I am a PhD Candidate in the Media, Technology & Society Program at Northwestern University, a visiting lecturer in the Communication Studies Department at Northwestern, and the Project Coordinator for the Web Use Project.
My research is concerned with the relationship between discourse and power as mediated by advanced information, communication, and media technologies. I examine this relationship at the institutional level, at the individual level, and as a set of policies and practices across media platforms. My dissertation examines the role of discourse in shaping the history of large-scale technological initiatives of the National Science Foundation, with particular emphasis on information and communication technologies.
In addition to the above work, I have I have published research on both weblog journalism and political blogging -- examining the effect of independent journalism on the existing media landscape and the vitality of cross-ideological political discussions among liberal and conservative bloggers respectively. I have also conducted research on mobile surveillance and role of information and communication technologies in mediating the relationship between the observer and observed.
